Tauriel is a Woodland Elf character created for Peter Jackson's film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit." She first appears in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" (2013), the second film in the trilogy. Tauriel is not found in Tolkien's original novel.
In the films, Tauriel is a skilled warrior and the head of the Elven guard of Mirkwood. She demonstrates exceptional archery and combat prowess. Her rank is lower than that of the Elven lords, and she is not of noble birth like Legolas.
A significant part of Tauriel's storyline involves a forbidden romance with the dwarf Kili. This relationship, unique to the film adaptation, creates conflict within the Elven society and challenges the established animosity between Elves and Dwarves in Middle Earth.
